Ex rating

A hazardous-area certification marking for equipment used where flammable gas or dust may be present.

e.g. Ex d (flameproof), Ex e (increased safety), with a zone, gas group and temperature class. Cannot be substituted casually — a replacement must carry an equivalent or higher marking for the area.
