Conveyors

What information a conveyor belt quote needs

Reviewed August 2026

Short answer

Width; total length or full conveyor geometry; belt class or tensile rating; plies or cords; top and bottom cover grade and thickness; material, lump size and temperature; above- or below-ground use and any FR/FRAS requirement; endless or open supply; and the required date.

Use this as your RFQ checklist. The more of it you can answer, the closer the first quotation is to the belt you actually need.

Always needed

  • Belt width (mm)
  • Total belt length, or head/tail centres + pulley diameters + take-up travel
  • Endless (factory-spliced) or open (site-spliced)
  • Belt class / tensile rating (e.g. EP 800/4, ST 1000)
  • Number of plies or steel cords
  • Top and bottom cover thickness (mm) and cover grade

Application detail

  • Material conveyed, bulk density, maximum lump size
  • Loading-point material temperature
  • Oil / fat / chemical exposure
  • Above ground or underground
  • Fire-resistance requirement and the exact standard called up by your mine spec
  • Conveyor incline, speed and tph if known

Commercial

  • Quantity and whether this is a breakdown or a planned change-out
  • Required delivery date
  • Delivery location
  • Whether you also need fasteners, splice kits, tools or pulley lagging

The print gives the class, plies and cover thickness, which is most of it. We still need the width, the length or conveyor geometry, and the operating conditions to confirm the compound and construction.
